Boyd “Mitch” Mitchell

 

La Marque – Mr. Boyd H. “Mitch” Mitchell passed from this life Saturday morning, May 22, 2010, in La Marque.

 

    Born August 19, 1919 in Cuero, Texas, Mitch had been a Hitchcock resident for 52 years before moving to La Marque due to Hurricane Ike in 2008.  He had worked as a roughneck for over 50 years and had retired from Welch Drilling in 1984.  He served in the U. S. Army during WWII, was an avid gardener and Astro fan, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5400 in Hitchcock.

 

    Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Beatrice; sons, Larry Charles Mitchell and wife, Susan, Michael H. Mitchell and wife, Carol; daughter, Jimmie Jo Perry and husband, Richard; brother, Bennett Mitchell; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

 

    Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, Chaplain Hampton Mabry officiating.  Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park with military honors by the U. S. Army and VFW Post 5400.

 

    Pallbearers will be Larry Mitchell, Mike Mitchell, Floyd “Butch” Neal, Tommy Perry, Justin “Bo” Reive and Andy Schaafs.  Honorary bearers will be Jason Mitchell, Jeremy Mitchell, Mason Perry, Caden Rodgers and Hugh Simon.


     Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.
