Ethel “Virgie” Huskey
Algoa - Mrs. Ethel “Virgie” Huskey passed from this life Wednesday morning, February 11, 2009, in Texas City.
Born January 31, 1913 in Flat Top, Texas, Mrs. Huskey had been a resident of Algoa since 1961. She attended Maranantha Christian Center in Santa Fe and, along with her husband, had co-owned and operated Bill Huskey’s Bait Camp on 61st Street in Galveston for over 38 years.
Mrs. Huskey was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Salvin Huskey; parents, Charles and Ethel (Tubbs) Grisham; sons, John Charles Huskey, Michael Flores; sons-in-law, Edward Frank Rodriguez, James E. Herrington; grandchildren, Elizabeth Brown, Sondra Socha; great-grandchild, Luis Trey Morales; brothers, Cecil Lloyd Grisham, Andrew Grisham and Clarence Grisham.
Survivors include her daughters, Billie Jean Rodriguez of New Braunfels, Beverly Ann Herrington of North Carolina, Ethel Virginia Davila of Texas City, Peggy LaRue Gavin and husband, Donald of Santa Fe, Margie Huskey of Galveston, Cindy Flores of Algoa, Anna Scott and husband, Ken of Santa Fe; sister, Opal Michelletti of Galveston; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Reverend Alex Yovan officiating. Interment will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin.
Casketbearers will be Arthur Flores, Benjamin Flores, Rudy Flores, Donald Gavin, II, Lisa LaRue Nebout and Eddie Rodriguez. Honorary bearer will be John C. Huskey, Jr.
