Mary M. “Maggie” Shead
SANTA FE – Mary Magdalene (Maggie) Wagner Shead was born January 18, 1925 in Plantersville, Texas to Dan Wagner and Katherine Martin Wagner. She passed away Friday, July 6, 2007, at the age of 82. She lived in Navasota, Texas for 54 years and then moved to Santa Fe, July 2004, to be near her beloved children. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Rinehart and husband, Robert of Friendswood and also her sons, Dan F. Shead and wife, Sue, Joe D. Shead and wife, Denise, both of Santa Fe and Tom R. Shead and wife, Suzanne of Friendswood; her grandchildren, John Shead, Shannon Shead, Tom Shead, James Shead, Melissa Harris and husband, Steven and Yvonne Minchew. Also, Holly Bankston and husband, Robert, Allen Rinehart, Tony Rinehart, Steven Decha, Christine Decha and husband, Elias Morales; great-grandchildren Kirsten Shead-Gallup, Tyler Harris, Alex and Derek Minchew; sisters, Verna Morse of Conroe, Barbara Shead of Santa Fe, Eugenia Johnson of Houston; brother, Dan Wagner of Santa Fe; sisters-in-law, Bernice Hyde of Tomball, Christine Wagner of Texas City and Irene Shead of League City and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would especially like to thank their Mom’s wonderful caretakers from Home Instead, Carol Campbell and Diane Venters, for all the loving care they gave her. They would also like to thank Dr. Warren T. Longmire and Bobbie Copeland for all their medical assistance.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, E.T. (Bud) Shead who passed away December 12, 2004; her parents, Dan and Katherine Wagner; her brothers, Mike Wagner, Jack Wagner and Joe Wagner.
Mary was a homemaker and was most noted for her homemade pies. She was a member of A.A.R.P. and the V.F.W. Post #4006 Ladies Auxiliary of Navasota. Her hobbies included bingo, dominoes, gardening and fishing. Mary loved her children and was especially proud that they are all college graduates. She also loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved playing cards and dominoes with them. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Hitchcock and was previously a longtime member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota.
Local visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Monday, July 9, 2007, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, (409) 925-3501 with a Rosary recited by the Knights of Columbus at 6:45 p.m. followed by a Celebration of life service conducted at 7:00 p.m., Reverend John Kappe officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville, Reverend Boli Zientek, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Waller Family Cemetery near Richards under the direction of Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.
Casketbearers will be Steven Decha, Elias Morales, Allen Rinehart, Tony Rinehart, John Shead and Shannon Shead.
