Clarence George Berg, Sr.
 
     Clarence George Berg, Sr., 92, passed on November 26, 2008.  He was born June 9, 1916 in Galveston and raised on the island.
 
     His passions in life were his family, golf and fishing.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He caddied and later played golf at Galveston Country Club and “Muny”.  “Shorty” as his golfing friends called him, was a “scratch golfer” for many years and won many tournaments at Texas City Country Club.  He was a pipefitter/welder at Union Carbide and retired after 29 years.  After retirement he played golf with his friends at Twin Lakes Course.
 
     Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Robert, Sr. and Gertrude; brothers, Conrad and Robert, Jr.
 
     Clarence is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Cornelia; his brother, Floyd; children, Carole Merritt (John, Sr.), Clarence, Jr. and Patty Hardy; grandchildren, Julie Leinenbach (Keith), John Merritt, Jr. (Tammy), Shelly Schultz (Chuck), Tony Berg, Brent Biscamp (Pauline) and Liberty Mahoney; eighteen great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
 
     Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, 10708 Hwy 6, Hitchcock, with Reverend Bill Stell officiating.  Interment will follow under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
