Daniel J. Mancillas

 

TEXAS CITY - Daniel Jose Mancillas went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 5, 2010, at UTMB hospital in Galveston.

 

    Born March 8, 1933 in Yoakum, Texas, Mr. Mancillas had been a long time resident of Galveston Island until, in 2008, Hurricane Ike caused him to relocate to Texas City.  He had worked for General Motors in Michigan for 30 years, both as a piston setter in the V8 Engine Plant and a metal finisher at the Metal Fab Stamping Plant.  He was of the Catholic faith and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.  He loved children, animals and a good round of golf.  He also enjoyed fishing, crabbing and playing bingo and dominos.

 

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Julio and Gregoria Mancillas; brothers, Gene Mancillas (Mary) and Julio; sisters, Aurora Nayra (Tomas), Carolina “Carrie” Patino (Charlie); brothers-in-law, Harry “Buddy” Johnson and James Smith.

 

    Survivors include his children, Daniel “Danny” Mancillas, Jr. (wife, Kim), Andrew  “Andy” Mancillas (wife, Dorine), Anthony “Tony” Mancillas (wife, Connie); daughter, Anna “Ree” Huber (husband, Mark); his loving companion, Sylvia Perez; brother, Bob Mancillas; sisters, Dominga “Minga” Johnson, Leonora “Noni” Sanchez (husband, Eddie), Mary Cruz Smith, Linda Serrato (husband, Nicho); sister-in-law, Esther Mancillas; 14 grandchildren: SFC Brighton Mancillas, Connor Mancillas, Marcus Mancillas (wife, Susan), Jordan Mancillas, Garrett Mancillas, Rachel Verbeek (husband, Chad), Jake Bauer, Nathaniel Mancillas, Spencer Mancillas, Victoria Huber, Jacob Huber and Will Huber; 3 great-grandchildren: Savannah, twins Noah and Hunter Mancillas, and his cat, Moses.

 

    Visitation with the family will be Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home located at 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.  There will be a Vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m., followed by a rosary.

 

    Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Hayes Funeral Home.
