Donald Wayne Bates, Sr.
ALGOA - Mr. Donald Wayne Bates, Sr. passed from this life Sunday night, February 17, 2008, at his home.
Born December 15, 1946 in Franklin, TX, Mr. Bates had been a resident of Algoa for 3 years, previously of Hearne, TX. He had been employed as an electrician working construction for most of his life, served in the US Navy and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hearne. Donald enjoyed spending time fishing and walking with his "grandkids".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Lee, Sr. and Nellie Jane Bates; brother, Herbert Lee Bates, Jr. and is survived by his son, Donald W. Bates Jr. of Algoa; daughter, VaLorie Rena` Tanner and husband, Eddie of Pt. Lavaca; grandchildren, Alecia Danielle Wright and husband, Clinton, Jeremy Wayne Bates; great-grandchildren, Hayden Bates, Mark Bates, Zoë Wright; brothers, James Bates and wife, Mary Lee of Bristow, VA, Robert Bates of Wichita, KS, Melvin Bates and wife, Judy of Salado, TX; sisters, Janelle Wetzler and husband, Elmo of Algoa, Vivian Rollins and husband, Bobby of Wichita, KS; special niece, Janie Moon; special grandkids, Willie and Nellie Moon.
Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Calvary Baptist Church in Hearne with Reverend Nathan Hudson officiating. A private cremation will be conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock (409) 925-3501.
