Henry Castillo, Sr.


SANTA FE – Mr. Henry Castillo, Sr. passed from this life Tuesday evening, September 15, 2009, in Texas City.

Born November 26, 1949 in Galveston, Henry had been a life long resident of Galveston County.  He was a graduate of Ball High School, Rice University and the University of Houston and had worked for Freeman Decorating in Houston as a carpenter for 15 years in addition to owning and operating Castillo Enterprise Construction Company.  His memberships include New Life Fellowship Church in Texas City, Carpenter’s Local # 526, Harmony Masonic Lodge # 6 A.F. & A.M, A & A Scottish Rite, Coast Guard Auxiliary in Galveston and he had been active in politics in the Democratic party as well as a volunteer for the United Way.

Preceded in death by his parents, Bartolo and Matilda (Garcia) Castillo, survivors include his wife of almost 32 years, Gloria G. Castillo; sons, John B. Castillo (Jennifer) of Chandler, AZ, Henry Castillo, Jr., Texas City; daughters, Yvonne Bonnette (Dale, Sr.), of Texas City, Yvette Hall of Santa Fe; siblings, Bartolo V. “Bert” Castillo, Jr., (Vicki) of MS, Robert Castillo, Leo Castillo (Diane), all of California, Alice Gracia (Ralph) of League City, Clementine Wallace (Leroy) of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Michelle, Erica, C.J., Dale, Jr., Craig, Carl, Jeffrey, Bennie, Devon, Cody, Cy, Carina, Jasmine and Josiah; great-grandchildren, Rey, Jr., Jason, Cameran, Jayce and Joseph; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, an uncle, cousins and friends including his special friends, Nena and George Hiles.

Funeral services will be conducted 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, Dr. R. L. Calhoun officiating.  Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park. 

Casketbearers will be Leo Castillo, Robert Castillo, Bert Castillo, John Castillo, Henry Castillo, Jr. and Dale Bonnette, Sr. Honorary bearers will be George Hiles and Henry’s grandsons.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m Friday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.

Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children – Galveston, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mary Jo Godinich, the staff at Mainland Medical Center and Sandcastle Dialysis Center in Texas City for the loving care given to Mr. Castillo.
