Hubert Alton Dowden

 

HITCHCOCK - Mr. Hubert Alton Dowden passed away November 12, 2011 at his residence in Hitchcock, Texas at the age of 83.

 

    Mr. Dowden was born on July 31, 1928 in Peason, La. to William M. and Willie Rosetta Dowden; he proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Airforce, receiving an honorable discharge.  He retired from Amoco after 36 years as a pipefitter, was a member of the OCAW Local # 4-449, Texas City Masonic Lodge #1118, A.F. &A.M., El Mina Shriners in Galveston, American Legion Post #594, and was a life member of VFW Post #5400.  He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, having cookouts with family, and was known for cooking the best BBQ chicken.

 

    Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Bill Dowden, Huey Dowden; sisters, Eleanor Withers, Eunice Trahan, Earle Chance and his son-in-law, Alan Oberg.

 

    He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Virginia Dowden; brothers, Edwin Dowden and wife, Sue, Joe Dowden and wife, Charlene; daughters, Kathy Moody and husband, Harold, Debbie Patterson and companion, Ron Slank, Kelly Oberg; sons, James Patterson and wife, Mimi, Pug Dowden and wife, Sue;  ten grandchildren, Chris Moody and wife, Rhonda, Jason Moody and wife, Jen, Jennifer Corbett, Matt Oberg, Jay Rife and wife, Tracey, Jordan Rife, Jonathan Rife, Eric Patterson and wife, Erin, Kevin Patterson  and Keith Patterson; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and special friends O. A. Tully and wife, Carolyn.

 

    Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Moody, Jason Moody, Matt Oberg, Eric Patterson, Jay Rife and Jordan Rife.

 

    Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

     Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501, Pastor John Newton officiating.  There will be a private family graveside service at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas following the funeral service.
