Jerold Harrison “Jerry” Krieger

Born in Hamilton, Ohio, on January 10, 1935, to Myrrl Hope (Harrisson) and Joseph Edward Krieger, Jerry left his earthly family on February 5, 2009, for his eternal one where he is experiencing complete love, joy, peace, and truth in his Father’s presence.  At the time of his passing, Jerry was at home, surrounded by his loved ones.   Previously of the Memorial area in Houston, he had lived in Santa Fe since his marriage to Marcia Kirk Krieger on July 1, 1989.

Having graduated from Cincinnati’s Walnut Hills High School for the gifted and earning his master’s degree in mechanical engineering and his MBA at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where he was a Sigma Chi, he was prepared for a successful, productive, happy, and intellectually-satisfying life.  Having been schooled spiritually at his mother’s knee and in the teachings of Christian Science, Methodism, and Baptist doctrine, he wholeheartedly embraced the teachings and sacrifice of Christ and read the Bible at breakfast almost every morning of his life.  He was generous, kind, loving, and virtuous, and always there to help and figure out how the “impossible” could be done.

Jerry’s business career began as an engineer at Mountain Fuel Supply in Salt Lake City, Utah, where his two children were born. Accepting a position at Tellepsen Construction, he and his children moved to Houston. After leaving Tellepsen, Jerry became an entrepreneur and acquired and founded several small businesses, including Southwest Business Publications. Later in life he recruited brokers for Merrill Lynch offices around the country.  His final and favorite endeavor was as a teacher and role model in the private school that he and his wife Marcia began in 2002.  He was much loved and admired by the students and led his last classes in September 2007.

His great love, besides family and nature, was playing sports, including football in high school and college, basketball in high school and Senior Olympics, and baseball in high school and adult leagues.  He was an outstanding athlete.  He loved going to the Houston Texan football games and always had season tickets.  Each grandchild in turn probably got their first lift to the basketball goal from him as soon as they could hold the ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  He leaves his love to his son, Scot Wood Krieger, wife Erin, grandchildren Torrey, Blair, and Preston; his daughter Melissa Laine Mayes, husband Jon, grandchildren Sutton and Samuel (all of Austin); his wife, Marcia Kirk Krieger, and her children whom he loved, Daniel Smith, wife Carrie, grandchildren Kirk and Kate; Julie Beanland, husband Chris, grandchildren Keith and Kyle; Sharon Bloomfield, husband Tony, grandchildren Hunter and Cameron (all of Santa Fe); Letitia Cobbs, husband Todd, grandchildren Kristen, Courtney, Kevin, and Colton of League City; cousins Jill Hoff of Cincinnati; and John Acomb, and wife Joanne, of Beloit, Wisconsin. Barbara Mancuso of Santa Fe was his special caregiver who brought laughter to him in the hardest times.

His memorial service will be held Saturday, 2/14/09 at 10:00 AM at Arcadia First Baptist Church, 14828 Hwy 6, Santa Fe, TX.   A private cremation was conducted by Hayes Funeral Home, (409) 925-3501.
