Joel Edwin Hufhines
TEXAS CITY - Mr. Joel Edwin Hufhines passed from this life Friday morning, May 20, 2011, in Texas City.
Born January 24, 1940 in Post Oak, TX, Mr. Hufhines had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1978 and most recently of Ashton Parke Care Facility where he was crowned “The 2011 King of Mardi Gras.” He had been employed with Brown and Root for 15 years as a pipefitter and welder, served in the US Navy and enjoyed hunting, fishing and was well known for his gardening and culinary skills.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Sue (Whitsitt) Hufhines; parents, Hamp and Loretta Francis Hufhines; sister, Elizabeth Lorene Winchester.
Survivors include his son, Joe Hufhines and wife, Tonya; daughters, Rhoda Longoria and husband, Pete, Mary McCauley and husband, Dennis, all of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Jimmy Honnoll, Rachel and Cody Rosier, Renee and Kenny Bickerstaff, David Longoria, Brandon Hufhines, Eric Longoria, Mary McCauley, Hannah Longoria; great-grandchildren, Angela Bickerstaff, Joel Honnoll, Amelia Rosier, Emma Rosier, Christopher Bickerstaff and Kaidence Hufhines.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Diaz de Leon officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Jimmy Honnoll, David Longoria, Brandon Hufhines, Eric Longoria, Kenny Bickerstaff and Cody Rosier.
