John B. Long
SANTA FE – Mr. John Barton Long passed from this life Thursday morning, September 1, 2011, in Texas City.
Born December 17, 1931 in Beaumont, Mr. Long had been a 50 year resident of Santa Fe, previously of Alvin. He was a graduate of Alvin High School, served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and worked as a Longshoreman for 25 years. He was a longtime member of ILA # 20 and VFW Post 5400, and had been a charter member of ILA # 1576 and member of ILA # 307 before they merged with ILA # 20.
He is survived by his wife, Earline; one son; daughters, Linda Long, Lois Powers (Randy), Lisa Long; 6 grandsons and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Alta Loma Cemetery, Pastor Robert Lee officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, (409) 925-3501.
