John P. Blackmon
SANTA FE – Mr. John Pershal Blackmon passed from this life Saturday morning, October 10, 2009, at his home in Santa Fe.
Born May 21, 1926 in Merryville, LA, Mr. Blackmon had been a resident of Santa Fe for 37 years, previously of Texas City. He retired from G & H towing after working 44 years as a seaman on tugboats and enjoyed fishing and listening to country and western music. He especially enjoyed watching the show, “Hee Haw” and being with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Roxie (Whitten) Blackmon, 1 brother and 4 sisters, he is survived by his beloved wife of over 53 years, Opal Blackmon of Santa Fe; son, Larry Morneau and wife, Janis of Buffalo; daughter, Lynne Sanderson and husband, Ronnie of Santa Fe; sisters, Goldie Mahoney of Mathis, Idell McCurley of Austin; grandchildren, Quinton Morneau and wife, Amy of League City, John Stubbs of Santa Fe, Deanna Bornmann and husband Keith of Buffalo; 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A time for family and friends to gather and remember John will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the Blackmon home in Santa Fe. A private cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
