Lawrence D. “Sonny” Smith

 

Hitchcock - Mr. Lawrence D. “Sonny” Smith passed from this life Tuesday morning, October 18, 2011, at his home in Hitchcock.

 

     Born July 21, 1938 in Carrington, North Dakota, Mr. Smith had been a 7 year resident of Hitchcock, previously of Louisiana. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard, retiring after 21 years, and   had worked as a diesel engineer.  Sonny enjoyed playing his guitar and fishing and was an avid NFL football fan, his favorite teams being the New Orleans Saints and the Houston Texans. 

 

    Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agnes Smith; son, Brian Patrick Smith; daughter, Kelly Rene Smith King; sister, Odetta Bryant and son-in-law, David Doran, survivors include his son, Daniel O’Kilen and wife, Brenda of Katy; daughters, Shawn Wilson of Hitchcock, Sherry Doran of Texas City, Laurie Hallee and husband, Luc; sister, Grace Krzewicki of Hitchcock; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his babies, Sam and Cisci.

 

    Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2011, at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, Deacon Joe Kelly officiating.

 

     Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.
