Oliver L. "Lee" Chambers
 
 
     Oliver L. "Lee" Chambers passed away recently in Lakeport, California at the age of 87.

     Lee was born in Necessity, Texas on April 10, 1921 and was raised in Alvin, Texas, graduating from Alvin High School in 1939. He was a long time resident of Santa Fe and Dickinson, Texas before moving to Clear Lake Oaks, CA in 2001. Lee served four years in the USMC from 1941-1945. He worked for several years as a Game Warden after his military service and thereafter was employed by Union Carbide in Texas City from 1947 to 1970. He later started Lee’s Torch and Regulator Service, which he operated for many years.

     Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Sr. and Laura Chambers of Alvin, Texas and a sister Marjorie Chambers Sumbera of Holland, TX.

     Survivors include wife, Betty Chambers of Clear Lake Oaks, CA; son, Dennis Chambers and wife, Shirley; daughter, Debby Chambers and husband, Ed Socha all of Houston. He is also survived by grandchildren, Aaron Chambers of Houston and Rachel Chambers Moore and husband, Mike of Richboro, PA; great-grandchildren, Natalie and Mary Alice Chambers of Channelview and Lily Moore of Richboro, PA.

     Lee was an avid outdoorsman and spent many hours hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. He was also very active in Scouting and served as a Scoutmaster for Troop 405. Lee never met a stranger and will be remembered by many for his gregarious nature and outgoing personality.

     A visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2008, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
