Leonard Frederick Harrell

LAS VEGAS - Leonard Frederick Harrell fought the good fight in this life and finished his course on Saturday, June 11, 2011.

Leonard was born August 29, 1946, in Galveston, Texas, to Fred Henry Harrell, Sr. and Fellman Rowe Kelly.  He attended Central High School and went on to college to pursue his interests in business, nursing and applied sciences.  Leonard served his country in Vietnam as a medical corpsman in the United States Army.  The bulk of Leonard’s loyal work career was spent in service with the U.S. Postal Service and Gaido’s Seaside Inn.  In 2005, he made one of his long-time dreams come true when he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.  There, he worked as an auditor at Fitzgerald’s Casino and Hotel until his retirement in 2010.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his late wife, Patricia Medlin Harrell; brothers, Fred Harrell, Jr. and Thomas Harrell; sisters, Bessie Johnson and Fredericka Austin.  Those left to cherish the memories of this noble, caring, kind, generous, gentle man are his loving wife, Rhonda Harrell; precious daughter, Cheronda Harrell; dear son, Damian Harrell; two beautiful and talented granddaughters, Falyn Page and Cydne Harrell-Malveaux; caring sisters, Sue Harrell and Ianthia Scott; beloved cousins, Vanessa Guidry and Robin Rhone; many extended family members; and scores of dear friends—many of whom he’s loved and laughed with since school days.  Much love to Rock, Tank, Tack, Chuck, Little Joe, Sugar and Johnny.  Monk loved you like brothers.

The family will begin receiving guests at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2011, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6 in Hitchcock, Texas, (409) 925-3501.  The celebration of Leonard’s life will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Clay Thomas, Pastor Leroy Lacy, Jr. and Reverend Elona Herron speaking and singing words of encouragement.  Burial will be at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.
