Orvil Ray Newlin

 

ARCADIA - Mr. Orvil Ray Newlin passed from this life Wednesday morning, September 23, 2009, in League City.

 

     Born October 7, 1935 in Arcadia, Texas, Mr. Newlin had been a lifelong resident of Arcadia.  He had been employed as a crane operator with Brown and Root for over 30 years and had served in the US Army.  Orvil had been a member of the VFW Post #89 in Texas City, the National Rifle Association, the Southwest Rodeo Association and enjoyed playing ball and riding horses.

 

     He was preceded in death by his parents, John Chesterfield and Julia Florence (Bush) Newlin; brother, Jessie Newlin; sisters, Lois Tully, Alma Merchant and Irene Janice.

 

     Survivors include his sister, Alene Cole of Manvel and numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and other family.

 

     Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin with Pastor Tom Medlin officiating.  Interment will be conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
