Raymond Smith, Sr.

 

HITCHCOCK - Mr. Raymond John Smith, Sr. passed from this life Sunday morning, May 10, 2009, in Texas City.

 

     Born March 9, 1919 in Texas City, Mr. Smith had been a resident of Hitchcock since 1960.  He had served in the United States Air Force for 20 years until his retirement in 1960 to become the owner and operator of the commercial shrimp boat “The Reliance” for over 20 years.   Mr. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church of Hitchcock, built model cars, planes and boats, loved being outdoors and enjoyed going to the Senior’s lunch every Thursday at the church.

 

     He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Smith; parents, Alfred Charles and Lela Mary (Conant) Smith; brothers, Walter, Clyde, Clifford and Ernest Smith.

 

     Survivors include his son, Raymond John Smith, Jr. and wife, Frances Mae of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda Jane and Richard Dale Touchstone, Sr. of Hitchcock; grandchildren, Richard Touchstone, Jr., Steven Touchstone, Shannon Pruitt, Richard Smith, Carol Ann Register, Mary Wooton; great-grandchildren, Shailynn Pruitt, A.J. Pruitt, Kerissa Touchstone, Richard Touchstone, III, Seth Register, Jake Register, Stephanie Sanders, Shannon Wooton and Krista No'elle Smith.

 

     Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, in the Chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Neeley officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park.

 

    Casketbearers will be Marion Adams, Jr., Robert Adams, Wally Hicks, Michael Register, Richard Touchstone, Jr. and Steven Touchstone.
