Robert Vernon Long, Sr.
SANTA FE – Mr. Robert Vernon Long, Sr. passed from this life Friday afternoon, July 1, 2011, in Texas City.
Born February 11, 1927, in Yanush, OK, Mr. Long had been a resident of the Santa Fe area since returning from service in the United States Navy in 1946. He was a chief operator with Amoco for 37 years, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3789 and enjoyed fishing, carpentry and gardening. He will best be remembered for the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Frederick and wife, Susan Ellen (Thompson) Long; brothers, Jack and Tommy Long; sisters, Betty, Doris, Reeva and Lola Long.
Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Denton and husband, Greg of Santa Fe; sons, Robert Vernon Long, Jr. and wife, Martha of Jacksonville, Larry Hollis of Santa Fe and stepson, Elliott Palmer, also of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Joyce, Josh and wife, Jennifer, Chris, Cheyenne, Keith, Tiffany and Taryn; great-grandchildren, Tara, Brandon, Keara, Cynthia, Joshua, Jr. Chloe, Jenny and Anthony; sister, Alice Hamm of Hitchcock.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway Six, (409-925-3501). Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Lehigh Community Center in Lehigh, OK with Mr. Joshua Long officiating. Interment will follow at Lehigh Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
