Robert W. Watts

 

SANTA FE - Mr. Robert Wesley Watts passed from this life Monday morning, January 5, 2009, in Webster.

 

    Born December 25, 1917 in Halifax County, Virginia, Mr. Watts had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1957. He had been a lab technician with the Army Corps of Engineers in Galveston until his retirement in 1979 and had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.  Mr. Watts was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men, Santa Fe Senior Citizens Club, The Democratic Party, enjoyed gardening and had a special talent for flounder fishing.

 

    He was preceded in death by wife of 37 years, Emma “Bootsie” Watts; sister, Lois Ann Sublett; brother, Carroll Watts and great-granddaughter, Emma Baker.

 

    Survivors include his stepsons, Raymond L. Haak and wife, Gladys, Charles H. Haak and wife, Vanesa, all of Santa Fe; brothers, John Edward Watts and E.C. Watts, Jr., both of Phoenix, VA; sisters, Pauline Green of Randolph, VA, Bonnie Watts Brown of Phoenix, VA; grandchildren, Theresa Haak, Cecilia Gabba, Bridget Haak, Dolly Laymance, Lucy Haak, Wesley Haak; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.

 

    Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Webb officiating.  Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. An additional memorial service will be held January 31, 2009, in Robert’s home state of Virginia.

 

    Casketbearers will be Mike Brown, Charlie Coleman, Tommy Harryman, Earl Hooper, Bill Taylor, Max Tully and Bobby Wright.

    Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Drawer C, Santa Fe, Texas 77510.

 

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kathy Vann for her love and compassion as caregiver for Mr. Watts these last few years.
