Anna Mae Hawkins

SANTA FE - Anna Mae Hawkins went home to her Lord on November 1, 2011.  She was born September 6, 1923 in Damon, TX and passed away at her home in Santa Fe, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 51 years, Robert “Woody” Hawkins; parents, Clarence and Mary Yackel; son-in-law, Joe Gracia and granddaughter, Anna Nicole Pina. Survivors include her son, Mike Hawkins and his wife, Gloria of Leawood, KS; daughters, Susan Dennard and husband, Mel of Santa Fe, Robbie Gracia of Texas City; 6 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and her devoted companion, Polly, her Boston Terrier.

She spent most of her life in Texas City, TX making a loving home for her family.  She had started her career with the United States Postal Service in Freeport, Texas. After marriage and raising her family, she worked in a number of retail establishments while with United Food Commercial Workers Union. She finished her career as an employee of Sears.

She was a member of Midway Church of Christ and the VFW Post #5400 Ladies Auxillary.  She loved working in her yard and was an avid gardener.  Her love of animals extended thru her entire life.  At one time she had horses, mules, cats, dogs, guinea hens, goats, doves, chickens and peacocks.  She enjoyed trail riding and she and her husband, Woody, were excellent dancers.  To this day her children think she made the best fried chicken in the county.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Midway Church of Christ, Mr. Russell McLaughlin officiating.  Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, (409) 925-3501.

Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Pallbearers: Jeremy Battistoni, Mel Dennard, Jeremy Gracia, Matt Hawkins, Shane Spencer, Sandy Spencer.

The family would like to offer their special thanks to Mrs. Hawkins’ chosen family, her dear neighbors and friends Jackie and Charlie Zieber and Jim and Becky Vanness, and to her caregiver, Roxanne Syers for the love and care each had given her.
