Dorothy Timken Curtis-Hammond
GALVESTON – Dorothy Timken Curtis-Hammond died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, surrounded by her daughters and hospice care at her home in Galveston, Texas.
Born February 19, 1934 in Mercedes, Texas, to Elda Schroeder Timken and Fred W. Timken of Mercedes, Dorothy was the youngest child of four.
Dorothy was of the Lutheran faith, graduated from Mercedes High School in Mercedes, TX and had worked in the Medical Records Department of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston for 20 years before retiring several years ago.
As an adult, she looked forward to Saturdays when she and her sister would frequent garage sales in Galveston; sewing for her girls was also rewarding for her and in her last years she worked puzzles, and enjoyed coffee in the afternoons.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father and siblings, Leona Timken Watkins and husband, Willard, Arnold Timken, Timothy Timken, and Edna Timken.
Survivors include her three daughters, Nelda Curtis of Colorado, Barbara Curtis, and Lori Ann Hammond-Cortez and husband, Diego Cortez, all of Galveston; grandson, Wayne Hall (Heidi); niece, Edna Latini; nephew, Jerry Wayne Watkins.
Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend C. Wayne Clement officiating under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.
Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to A*Med Community Hospice, American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or your favorite charity.
