Florine Josephine (Zbranek) Carpenter

SANTA FE - Mrs. Florine Josephine (Zbranek) Carpenter passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Mainland Center Hospital at the age of 77.

     Flo was born August 31, 1931 at home on a farm in Haw Creek, TX.  She grew up working with her family on the farm, graduated from Bellville High School in 1949 and worked in several different jobs around the Bellville-Shelby area.  She met a railroad man named Jack while working at the confectionary in Bellville, they married and she soon became a Navy wife for 4 years.  She spent the next several years raising a family and eventually went to work at Santa Fe ISD as a secretary at the high school.  She loved her job, the school and the kids and worked there for over 20 years.  After retirement, she and Jack did some traveling and they loved working in the yard.  She was a gracious volunteer over the years for the Cub Scouts, Little League, Santa Fe Band and the Galveston County Fair.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Helen Zbranek, Jr. and a daughter, Vicki Lynn Carpenter.

     Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Jack Carpenter, Jr.; brother, Royce Zbranek and wife, Violet of La Grange; children, Gary Carpenter and wife, Kathy of Santa Fe, Lynda Wagner and husband, Jerry of Bayou Vista, Terry Carpenter and wife, Norma of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Melissa Johnson, Jeremy Carpenter, Autumn Jimenez, Kelli Hefner, Katie Wagner and Erin Carpenter.  She was also blessed with 9 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way.

     Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, in the Chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Tammy Sharp officiating.  

     Casketbearers will be Jeremy Carpenter, Anthony Jimenez, Tim Johnson, Jason Hefner, David Zbranek and Darryl Zbranek.
