Mary Opal Wells

 

SANTA FE - Mrs. Mary Opal Wells passed from this life Saturday morning, February 27, 2010, at her home.

 

     Born March 29, 1931 in Rusk County, TX, Mrs. Wells had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1977, previously of Kilgore.  She had been employed as a manager at numerous retail and grocery stores for 35 years and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Always friendly and never met a stranger, Mrs. Wells especially loved her grandkids. She also enjoyed bowling, collecting bottles, figurines and owls. 

 

     Preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Grace (Baker) Thornton and husbands, Joe T. Wells and Bill Bellamy; she is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Shanna Bellamy of Friendswood, Randy and Pat Whittington of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Larry Bonds of Leakey; brother, William Travis Thornton of Kilgore; sisters, Lucille Alexander and husband, Max of Liberty City, Beth Thornton of Kilgore; grandchildren, Stan, Shara, Travis, Kelley, Chris, Ashley, Allie, Todd, Matt, Aaron, Miranda, Carla and 10 great-grandchildren.

 

     A Funeral service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Reverend John Kappe officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

 

     Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501, with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. 

 

     Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to the SPCA, 900 Portway Drive, Houston, TX  77024.
