Mattie M. Straley

 

HOUSTON – Mrs. Mattie M. Straley passed from this life Wednesday morning, October 19, 2011, in Houston. 

 

Born February 23, 1920 on a cotton farm in Concho County, Texas, Mattie had been a resident of Houston since 2008, previously a 63-year resident of Santa Fe.  Mattie worked for O. L. Montgomery Real Estate and Santa Fe Rental Company for 31 years.  She was a licensed Real Estate Broker, a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church for over 51 years and enjoyed reading and crocheting and was known by many as being able to make the best pecan pie in the area!

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Bob; son, Tommy; brothers, Grady Cape, Charlie Cape and wife, Frankie; sisters, Flossie Travis and husband, Frank and Annie Mae Liverman.

 

Survivors include her stepson, Keith McQuarry (Barbara); grandchildren, Thomas E. Straley, Jr., Terry Straley, Todd Straley (Pam); great grandchildren, T.J., Lezelle, Jaydan, Skylar and Amber; sister, Susie Dover; daughter-in-law, Glenda Straley; nephew, Wade Dover (Peggy), Oscar Travis (Glenda); niece, June Wyatt and her very special friends, Jill Bryant and the Don Morgan family.

 

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2011, at Hayes Grace Memorial Park, Dr. Rick Smith officiating.  Interment will follow under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

 

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Vosswood Nursing Center for the care they extended Mattie during her final years, and especially to Keandra Robinson and Dobria Weathersby for the love they gave as Mattie’s sitters.
