Velma Ann (Labay) Guthman

 

ALVIN - Mrs. Velma Ann (Labay) Guthman passed from this life Monday morning, December 8, 2008, at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center.

 

     Born September 20, 1923 in El Campo, Mrs. Guthman was a resident of Alvin since 2000, previously a longtime resident of Danbury.  She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Danbury, attended St. John The Baptist in Alvin and was a member of KJZT. Mrs. Guthman enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo, cards, dominos and taking trips to the casinos.

 

     She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Harold Fred Guthman, Sr.; son, Harold Fred (Snooks) Guthman, Jr.; son-in-law, Robert Johnson; parents Robert and Velma (Dornak) Labay; brother, Ben Robert Labay; sister, Marie Rainosek Armatta and grandson-in-law, Glen Ryan.

 

     Survivors include her daughters, Leslie Card and husband, Elmer of Galveston, Sharon Johnson of Alvin; grandchildren, Alicia and Mike Karbowski, Robbie and Barbie Johnson, Lista and Lee Morris, Alan and Bonnie Filipp, Leah Winfield, Ace Filipp, Jeff Johnson and Theresa Deitrich, Loryn Johnson, Hunter Filipp; great-grandchildren, Allyn, West, Reese, Jake, Carson, Alicia, Ryleigh, Bayleigh, Easton, Gage, Reagan, Hadlee, Kamden, Brooklyn, Koen, Tanner and Jada.

 

     A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Danbury with Father Phi Nguyen, Celebrant.  Committal service and interment will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park Cemetery in El Campo conducted by Deacon Gerald Nohavitza, under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, (409) 925-3501.

 

     A visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with a Vigil and Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Gerald Peltier officiating.

 

     Casketbearers will be Ace Filipp, Alan Filipp, Hunter Filipp, Jeff Johnson, Robbie Johnson and Lee Morris.

 

     The Family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, home dialysis nurses, home health care, Dr. Vu, Dr. Grover, Dr. Kaul, Dr. Agent and their staff.  To her friends and family, thanks for all your love and prayers.
