Verva Irene Roberts
Verva Irene Moore Roberts was born in Arcadia, Texas, on February 3, 1918, and she departed her earthly life on Friday, July 3, 2009, while a resident at Hearthstone Assisted Living in Texas City. She lived her entire life in Galveston County.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her parents, John Andrew and Emma Powers Moore; her husband of 62 years, George E. Roberts; grandson, Bart Roberts; great grandsons, Joshua Pothier and Rian Weidle; brother, Vernon Moore; and sisters, Marie Beaver, Marjorie White, Janie Grigg and Thelma Montgomery.
She is survived by sons, Jimmy Roberts, Johnny Roberts and his wife Elceone of Santa Fe; and two daughters and their husbands, Verva (Sally) and James (Clayton) Carroll of Omega Bay and Betty and Roland McGinnes of Santa Fe.
Her surviving grandchildren and their spouses are Mindi and David Morgan, Kenneth and Beth McGinnes, Cindy and Jim Guidos, April and Michael Pothier, James and Andrea Bairrington, Sandra and Gary Windham, Tracy and Billy Thompson, Jerry and Stacy Carroll, Cathi and Mark Lippert, Kevin and Allison Roberts, Donna and Keith Slaughter, Laura and Jeff Weidle; and Robin and Mitch Loner.
Mrs. Roberts is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was a member of Midway Church of Christ and spent her life as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She especially enjoyed working with her plants and flowers. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home on Monday, July 6, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. with Minister Russell McLaughlin officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Alvin Confederate Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Kenneth McGinnes, Jerry Carroll, Kevin Roberts, Andy Minter, Stephen Skaggs and Alex Pothier.
