Wildon Albert Roberts
DICKINSON- Wildon Albert Roberts went to be with the Lord and join his family members in heaven on August 14, 2011. He was born in Sunny South, Alabama on July 9, 1922 to Jackie and Grady Roberts.
He is preceded in death by both parents; sons, Wayne and Dennis Roberts; brothers, Jimmy and Ronald Roberts; sister, Hazel Wilson; and first wife, Sue Roberts.
Survivors include wife, Eva Roberts; son, Glenn Roberts; sister, Claudia Culpepper; grandchildren, Tracy Johnson and Geoffrey Roberts, Charity Ware, Judith Gallagher, Kristin Trejo and Stephen Talley; great-grandsons, Skylor and Colton Roberts, Caleb and Abram Trejo; great-granddaughters, Haley and Shelby Davis; daughter-in-law, Janie Roberts; sisters-in-law, Peggy Roberts and Linda Roberts; niece, Shelby Sustala; nephew, Jeffrey Roberts; and step children, Diana Malone and Terri Talley.
During World War II, Wildon was a Sergeant attached to the 1304th Army Air Forces Military Police in the Search and Rescue Unit based in the China/Burma theatre. He was dropped behind enemy lines many times to rescue survivors or deceased soldiers from airplane crashes and other incidents. After his tour of duty he joined the Army Reserves at Camp Shelby, Mississippi.
After moving to Galveston in 1950 he worked at Pennington Buick Company, left there and went to work as service manager at Denton Motor Company, and then began working at Lipton Tea Company where he retired after 20 years of service. For years, Wildon coached Little League and was scout master at the First Baptist Church in Galveston. He was one of the first men to join the American Business Women’s Association, Helping Others Pursue Excellence, La Marque Elks Lodge and H2U at Clear Lake Regional Hospital.
Wildon will be cremated and burial of his ashes will be at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery beside his beloved first wife, Sue Roberts. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 5 – 7 p.m. followed by a short memorial service at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Hwy 6 in Hitchcock, (409) 925-3501.
