William Guyle Hodge
HITCHCOCK - Mr. William Guyle Hodge passed from this life Saturday evening, November 29, 2008, at Mainland Medical Center.
Born March 12, 1915 in Savannah, TN, Mr. Hodge had been a resident of Hitchcock since 1975, previously of Galveston and Blytheville, AR. He had been employed with Southern Compress in Galveston as press foreman for 24 years; his entire career in the cotton industry spanned over 40 years. After his retirement, Mr. Hodge bought and remodeled numerous homes, enjoyed gardening, yard work, playing dominoes and especially liked to reminisce about the “good old times”.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Gwendolyn Hodge; parents, Edward Isaac and Maude (Cupples) Hodge; son, James Lee Hodge and daughter-in-law, Sharon Hodge; sisters, Edna Freidly and Lois Harbin.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Wanda Hodge of Santa Fe, Thomas Jerry and Margaret Hodge of Conroe, David and Tracy Hodge of Oakridge; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Bennie Counts of Orange; sisters, Doris Hodge and Joyce Moore, both of Campbell, MO; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Mr. Russell McLaughlin, Mr. Bryan Hodge and Mr. Michael Green officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Ricky Green, James Hodge, John Hodge, Kevin Hodge, Shaun Hodge, Jasper Hodge and Brandon Henderson.
