I, too, was a 3rd grader in the 1968-1969 school year. Mrs. Yantis was the kindest, gentlest person I have ever known. I can see her light green sweater with the top button buttoned and her wearing it like a cape. She smelled so heavenly like an angel. I loved her glasses with the jeweled corners and a chain she would wear like jewelry hanging from her neck. We still took naps at our desks playing "thumbs up". Funny I don't recall the details of that game, but I can remember her face like it was yesterday. Mr. Yantis was equally kind. I heard decades later she made all of his suits. He was always impeccably dressed as was she. What a legacy of long life you left behind Mrs. Yantis. I am grateful I had the opportunity to learn from you. Everything I learned then is what I wanted to be when I grew up. I still study clouds still. I still want to be an oceanographer and anarcheologist. I beach comb. I dig up fossils and I day dream about clouds. Thank you Mrs. Yantis.

I believe I am somehow related and am sad that I never knew Alice. Yantis is my maiden last name. It seemed as though she lived a very full life really making a difference in others. RIP, Alice. - Karen

Mrs. Yantis was my 3rd grade teacher at Stewart Elementary in 1969. She was the most patient, kind, and gentle teacher I ever had. She taught me cursive writng and multiplication like no one else could. She also inspired me to go on to be a teacher myself. What a great lady!

Mrs. Yantis was my 3rd grade teacher, many years ago. She was so kind and gentle; to me she and Mr.Yantis were the perfect example of what educators should be. They truly cared about their students. I have taught for over 30 years and I only hope that some of my students will remember me as fondly as I remember Mrs. Yantis. She was truly a blessing in my life.

Mrs. Yantis was my father Julius Schindler's 3rd grade teacher. He always spoke highly of his teachers in Hitchcock. She will be missed.
