Danny Ross Donovan, Sr.
SANTA FE - Danny Ross Donovan, Sr., 71, of Santa Fe, TX, passed away February 24, 2018, in Houston, TX.
He was born August 14, 1946, in Galveston, TX, where he spent many days of his youth at the beach surfing the waves. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He continued his public service as a firefighter in the Galveston Fire Department, where he was dedicated to saving lives for 33 years, retiring as a Captain. To all who knew him, Danny was a friendly, cheerful soul and interesting conversationalist, who had an endless imagination and sense of curiosity, and was always thinking outside the box. He was passionate about building something with his own two hands, where he could put his creative interests and artistic skills in architectural design, woodworking, drawing and painting, metal forging, and other crafty endeavors to good use. He most enjoyed spending his time creating something original; learning a new craft or skill; tinkering at his workbench; cooking a good meal; and spoiling his beloved dog, Ebbie.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Esther Seekins Donovan.
He is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Shirley Holbert; daughter, Cinnamon Bellview and her husband, Todd Bellview; son, Danny Donovan, Jr.; granddaughters, Jenna Bellview and Harley Donovan; sister, Michele Bolton and her husband, Ronnie; as well his nephew, niece, great nieces, and many firefighter brethren.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 State Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org in Danny’s honor, as this is a cause that was very near and dear to his heart.
