Dennis Wayne “Rooster” Martin

SANTA FE - Mr. Dennis Wayne “Rooster” Martin passed from this life Saturday morning, December 16, 2017, in Galveston after a five month bout with cancer.

Born February 20, 1947 in Galveston, Mr. Martin had been a resident of Santa Fe for 7 years previously of Texas City. Rooster was a 50 year member of the Pipefitter’s Local #211 which he worked construction for 10 years before retiring from Union Carbide after 30 years. He had been a member of First Baptist Church in Texas City. An avid football fan, he enjoyed wood working and loved to cook especially for his family or anyone that came by the house.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Henderson and Mary Virginia (Burton) Martin; daughter, Shelly Martin Moss; grandson, Matthew Dennis Evans; brothers, Bob Martin and Jim Martin.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Sherill Martin; son, Tom Martin of Florida; daughter, Stacy Martin of Texas City; son-in-law, Jack Moss of Kemah; grandchildren, Hayden Wood, Jack Moss, Cody Martin, Cameron Martin, Madeline Martin, Molly Martin and Haley Martin; great grandson James Wood; brothers, Samuel “Pepper” Martin and wife, Elaine of Florida, Tom Martin and wife, Sherry of Texas City; sister, Rebecca Calloway and husband, Bill of Louisiana; sisters-in-law Nobie Martin of Houston, Karen Martin of Santa Fe; special friend of many years, Cliff  Cridland; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

A private cremation will be conducted by Hayes Funeral Home, (409) 925-3501.  His family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
