PEARLAND - Mr. Elbert Eugene Thomas, Jr. passed from this life Sunday afternoon, August 20, 2017, in Friendswood.

Born February 23, 1938 in Katy, TX, Mr. Thomas had been a resident of Pearland since 1971. Gene worked as a warehouse manager for Bollinger Ship Yard for 28 years.  He was a member of the Walter M. Pierson Masonic Lodge #1339 AF&AM and attended First United Methodist Church of Pearland.  He was also a welder and pipefitter, enjoyed hunting, fishing and the rodeo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Eugene Thomas, Sr. and Nadine (Uloth) Thomas; brother, Thomas A. Thomas; daughter, Linda Ann Gonzalez.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, JoAnn Thomas; son, William “Bubba” Thomas and wife, Lori of Santa Fe; daughter, Sandra Sheffield and husband, Curtis of Pearland; sister, Rosa Lee Wadsworth of Houston; grandchildren, Cole Thomas, Curtis Sheffield (Jennifer), Dustin Sheffield, Chelsee Burkham (Mitchell), Destinee Gonzales (Johanna), Katy Sheffield (Manuel Enriquez); great grandchildren, Hailey Sheffield, Reese and McKenzee Burkham, Brayden Campos-Eschete; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Reverend Melody Kraus officiating.  Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Keith Kelly, Chris Pilkington, Ross Pilkington, Robby Schultz, Curtis Sheffield and Dustin Sheffield.  Honorary bearers will be Clint “Ed” Goodwin and Toby Goodwin.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
