SANTA FE - Mrs. Emma LeCleda Smith passed from this life Monday morning, October 16, 2017, in Santa Fe.

Born August 6, 1934 in Yuba, Oklahoma, Mrs. Smith had been a resident of Galveston County since 1968. Emma attended Second Street Baptist Church and enjoyed going to and singing in church. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing and genealogy. She spent her life creating a loving home for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Leon and Madeline Velma (Vaughan) Freeman; step-father, Arthur Rogers; son, Warren Dell Smith; brother, Thomas Leon Freeman, Jr.; daughters-in-law, Sue and Debbie Smith.

Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Allen E. Smith; sons, Allen L. Smith of Plano, Ernie R. Smith and wife, Terry, Lyle Smith and wife, Anna, all of Santa Fe; sisters, Jewell Hamil and husband, Fred, Barbara Cole all of Santa Fe; sisters-in-law, Nina O’Quinn of San Antonio, Grace Daly, of Santa Fe; 16 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Hayes Grace Memorial Park, with her grandson, Pastor Jett Smith, officiating.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.

Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Emma’s name to the Arthritis Foundation, 1349 Empire Central Drive, Suite , Dallas, TX 75247 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
