TEXAS CITY – Mrs. Gertrude Escobedo Garcia passed from this life Sunday morning, June 4, 2017, in Texas City.

     Born October 18, 1931 in Villanueva, Mexico, Mrs. Garcia had been a resident of Texas City since 1977, previously of Chicago. Gertrude was a member of the New Journey Church in LaMarque, formerly Cathedral De Fe, where she taught Sunday School was a leader of the Senior Ladies Bible Study and a member of the Prayer Warriors.  She affectionately loved her family, especially her grandchildren and will best be remembered for her loving, kind heart and devotion to God and family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Gertrude (Cantu) Escobedo; brothers, Jose, Pedro and Tomas Escobedo; sisters, Fidela Rivera and Leonor Arreola.

     Survivors include her her loving husband of 62 years, Marcelo R. Garcia; sons, Rodolfo Garcia, Sr. and wife, Jovita, Ruben Garcia and wife, Waleska, Joel Garcia and wife, Donna, Marcelo Garcia; daughters, Rebecca Jimenez and husband, Martin, Rachel Cantu and husband, Ysidro, Grace Rutherford and husband, Kenny; brothers, Felipe Escobedo, Sr. and wife, Lupita, Francisco Escobedo and wife, Luz; sister, Rosa Rodriguez; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.

     Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Mario Gutierrez, Reverend Duarte and Reverend Dolores Fuentes officiating.  Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

     Casketbearers will be her grandsons Timothy Cantu, Erik Garcia, Nathan Garcia, Rodolfo Garcia, Jr., Michael Rutherford, Mitchell Rutherford and Nico Villalpando.

     Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Mario Gutierrez officiating. 

     The family would like to say a special thank you to her caretaker, Cerides Gonzalez for the love and care given to Mrs. Garcia.
