Jerry Bruce Dozier, Sr.

(1940-2017)

     Jerry Bruce Dozier, Sr. was born July 1, 1940 on Petit Jean Mountain, Morrilton, Arkansas. He was born in a cabin overlooking a small lake and a CCC camp, which is now located on the private runway of Nelson Rockefeller. The Doctor who delivered him was paid half of Mr. Dozier’s potato crop for the delivery. Mrs. Dozier’s milk was bad so they traded for a Jersey cow that Mrs. Dozier milked two or more times a day. His parents and he moved to Alvin when he was about one and a half years old. He graduated from Alvin High School in 1958. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1958, where he served in the Strategic Air Command as a Crew Chief on a KC-135A (Boeing 707) Tanker which was in-flight refueling B-52 Bombers primarily. When the Berlin Wall was being built, he flew out of Torrejon A.F.B Madrid, Spain, refueling B-52 bombers that were circling Russia with nuclear bombs. He lived and worked out of the Torrejon Hilton Hotel located on the Air Base.

     He obtained a Diploma from Alvin Community College, a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from the University of Houston and a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law. He worked his way through college by driving trucks as a member of the Teamsters Union, handling freight for Southern Pacific Railroad and Roadway Express Trucking, driving a school bus for the University of Houston and many other various jobs, plus assistance from the G.I. Bill.

     He engaged in the private practice of law as a civil lawyer in the Alvin area for most of his life. At one time he was the City Attorney for four cities simultaneously, Alvin, Manvel, Danbury and Hillcrest Village. He originally was a partner in the law firm of McNeal, Thrash, Williams and Dozier.

     He was a member of the Alvin Masonic Lodge No. 762, the Arabia Shrine, Houston, Texas, the Knights Templar of Seguin, Texas, and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, 32°, Valley of Houston, Orient of Texas.

     He was very active in the First Christian Church of Alvin, Texas, having served as Diaconate Elder, Trustee and Chairman of the Board.

     He is survived by his son, Jerry Bruce Dozier, Jr. and wife, Cindy of Georgetown, Texas, and his son, Jarrett Bradley Dozier and wife, Courtney of Friendswood, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Marie Dozier Manning of Rosharon, Texas, and his sister, Barbara Lynnie Dozier Morgan of Liverpool, Texas, grandchildren, Kara and Dillon Dozier, Joshua McDonald, Jerry Lemons, Stella Bleu and Savanna Rose Dozier. He was predeceased by his father, Roy Norburt Dozier, Sr. and mother, Ruby Fern (Hillman) Dozier, daughter, Myschel Darlene Dozier and brother, Roy Norburt Dozier, Jr.

     Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 with a memorial service beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Reverend June Stoker officiating. A private interment will be follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
