Capt. Joseph A. “Joe” Murello, III

TEXAS CITY – Capt. Joseph A. “Joe” Murello, III went home to be with his Lord and savior having his family by his side on Saturday morning, November 26, 2016.

Born July 28, 1951 in Galveston, to his parents, Dorothy and Joseph Murello, Jr. Mr. Murello had been a lifetime resident of Santa Fe.  He enjoyed gardening with his dad, carpentry, yardwork and most of all the love of being a captain of the Colonel. His passion was a Dallas Cowboy fan.  He served as a ship captain for the State of Texas on the Galveston/Bolivar Ferry for 30 ½ years, and also as the captain of the Moody Colonel Paddlewheeler for 23 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Murello, Jr. and his son, Joseph Hardy “Joey” Murello.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Claudia A. Murello; mother, Dorothy Lee Murello; daughter, Daniela Molineris Capriotti of Argentina; brother, John Wesley “Johnny” Murello of Santa Fe; sister, Rose Suzanne Wyly and husband, Bill of Tiki Island; grandchildren, Santiago “Santi” Capriotti and Guillermina “Guille” Capriotti. The other love of his life was “Bridgett”, his dachshund. She was his bed partner and best friend ‘til the end.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Gulf Coast Foursquare Church, 6205 Delany Road, Hitchcock, Texas. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Gulf Coast Foursquare Church, with Pastor John Elliott, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow at Alta Loma Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

 Pallbearers will be John Wesley Murello, Jeff Murello, Josh Murello, Lance Pena (all nephews of Joe), Mike Kidwell, Jr., and Peter Arokiasamy. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin “Matt” Ayles, Dwight Wiggins, Edwin P. “Buddy” Kroschel and Gary Yates.

Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Joe’s name to Kelsey-Seybold Cancer Center, 2727 W. Holcomb Blvd., 2nd Floor, Houston, Texas 77025. 

The Murello family would like to say a special thank you to VITAS Hospice Care Center and Rose Suzanne for taking such good care of Joe.
