Joyce Mott Walmsley DeLavergne McKenna

     DICKINSON - Mrs. Joyce McKenna passed from this life Saturday morning, April 15, 2017, in Houston.

     Born August 31, 1927 in Galveston, Mrs. McKenna had been a resident of Dickinson for 25 years, previously of Galveston. She taught Sunday School at Trinity Episcopal in Galveston, was the Galveston County chairwoman for the March of Dimes, loved to fish, cook and be with her family. Joyce loved her family with all her heart and her doors were always open to anyone who needed a good meal and a good laugh.  She was known for her kindness and generous nature, and was always grateful from the “bottom of her heart.”

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Vera Mott; son, Walter Carter, Sr.; grandson, Bryan Patrick Carter.

     Survivors include her loving husband, James W. McKenna; son, Michael Walmsley of Dickinson; daughter, Marcia Harbour and husband, Leigh of Flower Mound; brother, Claude E. Mott, Jr. of Texas City; sisters, Charlotte Sims of Texas City and Ginger Mott; grandchildren, Victoria, Brianna, Darin Walmsley of Dickinson, W.J. Carter, Jr. (Kandee) of Ringgold, Georgia, Wendy Dowd (William) of Dallas, Misty Notley  (Tom), Jacquie Gorse (Sean) of Flower Mound; 16 great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Kathy Carter Alexander of Pineville, Louisiana and Ann Walmsley of Alvin; devoted friend, Keandre Murray.   

     Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Deacon Vincent Thinh Tran officiating.  A private cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

     Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Joyce’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tennessee 38105.

     The family wishes to thank Dr. R. Armstrong and his staff, the staff at Bay Area Regional Hospital, Dr. Gary Spangler and staff at Bay Area House Calls.
