SANTA FE - Mr. Morris Leon Owens, Sr. went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, December 3, 2016, peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a courageous fight with cancer.
Born October 13, 1944 in Baytown, Mr. Owens was a dedicated family man, who loved music and picking his guitar in church and enjoyed telling stories. He was a hard worker, always tinkering, fixing or building things. Morris was a former member of Santa Fe Easy Riders Biker Club and had worked in the oil fields of East Texas and retired as a truck driver for Enterprise Transport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas Leonard and Maggie Mae (Strauser) Owens; brothers, G. W. Owens, Billy Owens, Leonard “Junior” Owens, Jr.; sisters, Juanita Irby, Mary Jo Hudson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Carol Owens; sons, Morris Leon, Jr. and wife, Belen Owens of Coppell, TX, Kevin Dewayne and wife, Delilah Owens of Santa Fe; daughter, Yvonne Michelle and husband, Brock Joyal of Jacinto City, TX; brothers, James Glen and wife, Sharon Owens of Mt. Belvieu, Jerry Wayne and wife, Mary Owens of Livingston; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastors Nathan Hendrix and Harry Stafford officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown.
Pallbearers will be Grant Mallery, Anthony Owens, Matthew Owens, Nathan Owens, Johnny Rost and Jonathan Snyder.
