Larry Jones
Larry Jones, born June 21, 1957, resident of Galveston County for 17 years, died at his home in League City, Texas the evening of March 22, 2018. Larry was born in Lubbock, Texas and moved to Kansas City, Kansas when he was 14 years old. He surrendered to preach at age 16 and had his first pastorate at 21. He was the pastor of four churches throughout his years in ministry and served the community as a police chaplain and city council member. In 2006 he became involved in Amazing Grace Children's Home in Mexico City, Mexico where he helped raise funds for food, shelter and education for children rescued from the streets. In 2016 he started Baptist Charities where he poured his life into helping missionaries and churches help the poor, needy and underprivileged. He impacted many lives through his preaching, teaching and international charity work. In his spare time he enjoyed drawing, photography and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wanda and Will Williams, sister Cinda Williams and his father-in-law, Forrest Keener.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Carol Jones, his son, Nathan Jones and wife, Heather, of Santa Fe, his daughter Betsy Barnes and husband, Michael, of Alvin, his brother Craig Williams of Kansas, his sister Pam Williams of Kansas, his mother-in-law Mary Keener and his grandchildren Nora Barnes, Collin Barnes, Tyler Jones, Cory Barnes, Emma Jones, Jane Barnes, Lydia Barnes and Laura Barnes, and his honorary daughter Fabiola Fernandes.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Bayou Drive Baptist Church, 612 East Dumble Street, Alvin, with Pastor Ron Thomas and Pastor Tom Bragdon officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
