William Stuart “Bill” Blair, Jr.

William Stuart “Bill” Blair, Jr., 89, of Bryan, Texas, passed away Friday, September 29, 2017. Entombment will be Saturday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Hayes Grace Memorial Park, Hitchcock, Texas.

Born in Cleburne, Texas, Bill was the son of William and Iva (Griffith) Blair. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1945, he graduated from Ball High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps. Discharged in 1948, he enrolled at John Tarleton College in Stephenville, Texas, where he met his wife, Barbara Lockhart. They were married July 29, 1950. Bill transferred to Texas A&M but was called back to active duty, serving in Korea from 1950 to 1951. He was injured, becoming a P.O.W. in April 1951. Bill was released in May and was honorably discharged in August 1951.

Bill completed both his B.S. and M.S. in Agricultural Engineering at Texas A&M, Class of 1953. He relocated to Santa Fe, Texas, working in the petrochemical industry in both Texas City and Houston until his retirement.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his brother Carl, and his parents.

He is survived by: two brothers, Albert and David; one sister, Ruby Adams; six children and their spouses: Iva and John Campbell, Barbara and Jack Graham, William Stuart Blair III, Lee Anne and Jay Hiller, John and Jacqueline Blair, Mary and Larry Witkowski; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, including his special companion, Marie Prihoda.

Bill’s children ask that any donations be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or to a charity of your choice.
