William Jackson “Bill” Self, Jr.

     ARCADIA - Mr. William Jackson “Bill” Self, Jr. passed from this life Monday, October 3, 2016, in Houston.

     Born November 30, 1943 in Galveston, Bill had been a resident of Arcadia since 1971, previously of Texas City and had worked as an electrician for Union Carbide for 36 years, retiring in 2000. Bill served as a deacon at Santa Fe Christian Church, was a 32-degree Mason and Past Master of the John Mitchell Lodge #1401 AF & AM, where he had been a member for 32 years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Galveston, the El Mina Shrine Center #84 in Galveston and the IBEW Local #527 in Galveston. He was known as “Pappy” to his grandkids and affectionately known as ‘The French Fry Man” because he converted his truck to run on vegetable oil and could be seen collecting used vegetable oil at area restaurants.

     Preceded in death by his parents, William Jackson and Violet Dorothy (Cooper) Self, survivors include his loving wife of over 50 years, Beverly Self; son, Steve C. Self and wife, Bethany of League City; daughter, Katie L. Self of Arcadia; grandchildren, Emily “Moses” Self, Amy Self and Connor William Self.   

     Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Santa Fe Christian Church, 13602 FM 1764, with Pastors Greg Lackey and Darrell Boswell officiating.  Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. 

     Pallbearers will be Jason Cogburn, Cody Hunt, Julius Schindler, Albert Schumann, Randy Talbert and Albert Winwood.  Honorary bearers will be the members of Santa Fe Christian Church. 

     Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.  

     Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Mr. Self’s name to Santa Fe Christian Church, 13602 FM 1764, Santa Fe, Texas 77510.
