HITCHCOCK - Mr. Glenn Del Manis passed from this life Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in Hitchcock.
Born November 17, 1952, in Lubbock, TX, Mr. Manis was a former police chief of Hitchcock from 1979 till retirement in 2009, a master police officer, he exemplified courage, integrity, and dedication in every aspect of his work. He served with honor and distinction, upholding the values of justice and compassion, and making a positive impact on the community he served. A skilled helicopter pilot, Glenn soared through the skies with grace and precision, navigating challenges with skill and determination. His passion for aviation was matched only by his commitment to safety and excellence, earning him respect and admiration from all who had the privilege of flying with him. In addition to his illustrious career in law enforcement, Glenn was a card shark with a knack for strategy and skill. He approached each game with focus and determination, mastering the art of the deal and leaving opponents in awe of his prowess. Glenn was a proud graduate of Texas Tech and Sam Houston Law Enforcement, as well as the FBI Academy, where he honed his skills and knowledge to better serve and protect his community. His dedication to education and training was a testament to his commitment to excellence and lifelong learning. But above all, Glenn cherished the time spent with his beloved grandchildren. He was a source of love, wisdom, and endless joy, creating cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Vera (Hamilton) Manis; sister, Denise Amburn; son-in-law, Michael Womack; niece, Jody Camp.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 27 years, Susan Manis; sons, Glenn Manis, Jr. and wife, Aylissa, Norman Desormeaux and wife, Andrea; daughter, Lisa Womack; sisters, Donna Vance and husband, David, Randi Haley; grandchildren, Kenneth Colwell, Sam Kapel, Emily Desormeaux, Adam Kapal, Natalie Manis, Hailey Manis; great granddaughter, Loretta Kapal; bonus granddaughter, Chelsea Huggins; special care giver, MeMe Lewis; fur babies, Mattie, Olivia, Sofie; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Taylor Wehrie officiating.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
