HITCHCOCK – Mrs. Mary Ellen (Cannaday) Dieringer passed from this life Saturday afternoon, March 23, 2024, in Texas City.
Born December 12, 1937, in Franklin County, TX, Mrs. Dieringer had been a resident of Hitchcock for most of her life. She enjoyed fishing, doing puzzles and crossword puzzles, gardening, and bird watching. She spent her life taking care of her family and loved them more than anything.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Lee and Virginia Ruth (Lain) Cannaday; husband, John Joseph Dieringer, Sr.; grandson, Troy Turner; brother, Harvey Lee Cannaday.
Survivors include her children, Betty Jo Patterson, Beverly Ann Goodman, John Joseph “Joey” Dieringer, Jr. and wife, Lucy; grandchildren, Jonathan VanWagner, Meredith DuRee, Christopher Neal, Shane Turner, John Dieringer, III, Lisa Dieringer Todd; 12 great grandchildren; special friend and caregiver, Pat Johnson.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501, with Pastor John Humphries officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan VanWagner, Chris Neal, Shane Turner, John Dieringer, III, Jeremy Dieringer and Trey DuRee. Honorary bearers will be Meredith DuRee, Lisa Todd, Joey VanWagner, Bryce VanWagner, Madison DuRee, Caitlyn DuRee, Gavyn VanWagner, Peyton Sura, Marley Turner, Mason Todd, Raegan Turner and Cruz Dieringer.
Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Mary’s name to the American Heart Association, Post Office Box 11454, Alexandria, Virginia 22312.
