Mary Ruth (Stinson) Peek

SANTA FE - Mary Ruth (Stinson) Peek, 96, passed from this life on Tuesday morning, April 2, 2024, in Dickinson.

Mary was born in Avery, Texas and was the loving wife of Tom Preston Peek, Jr. for 60 years, devoted mother of Nell Peek Lopez, beloved grandmother of Sabrina Michelle Lopez and grateful mother-in-law of Roman Lopez Jr.

Mary grew up and worked on the family farm in Avery, Texas. She supported the war effort during World War II by working at the Red River Arsenal. She later married and moved with her family to Texas City, Texas in 1952, relocating to Santa Fe, Texas in 1967. Mary was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Alta Loma.

Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed canning garden vegetables, painting, quilting and crocheting. She loved her family dearly and always enjoyed the special moments they shared together.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward “Edd” Stinson and Lela Mae Kennedy Stinson; brothers, Hershal, Marvin, Jack, Hoarce and Eugene; sisters, Ivy, Nellie, Lola Stinson, Imogene Burns and Bonnie Lee Bellotte.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Nell Peek Lopez; son-in-law, Roman Lopez Jr.; grand-daughter, Sabrina Michelle Lopez; beloved nieces, Carol Ridenour, Betty Collins, Maxine Hughes, and Dianne Wharton.

Special thanks to Dr. Daniel Piazza, Dr. Henry Wagner, Harbor Hospice and all those who gave such good care and loving attention over the past several years. You have our deepest gratitude.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Santa Fe, TX 77510, with Pastor Jake Bigford officiating.
