Vince "Snookie" Megale III Obituary

SANTA FE – Vince Megale III, 81, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Clear Lake, Texas. Vince was born July 24, 1942, and raised in Galveston. He was baptized and raised in the Catholic Church where he also served as an Alter Boy. He began working in 1956 at the age of fourteen and never stopped. He graduated from Ball High School in 1960 and joined the United States Air Force in January 1961. Vince received an honorable discharge in January of 1965 and then served two years of in-active duty. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

He married Agnes Cappadona on December 31, 1964, and they were married 29 ½ years until her sudden passing on July 12, 1993. They joined the Moody Memorial Methodist Church after they married, then joined Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Santa Fe in 1982.

Vince married Patricia Ann Woodruff-Durdin on July 30, 1994, Vince is also survived by his daughter, Paula and husband, David Ewald; stepdaughter, Terri and husband, Danny McCrory; stepson, Brett and wife, Micki Durdin; five grandchildren, Brittany and husband, Gabriel Ross, Aaron and wife, Lindsay Tucker, Ryan and wife, Kayla Ewald, Ryan and wife, Stacy Durdin, Alyse Howell; great-grandchildren, River Ross, Jake and Grayson Ewald, Preslee and Caleigh Tucker, Nolan and Jake Durdin, Rheese Howell; sister, Carolyn and husband, Kenneth Rose; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Vince was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Megale, II and Marcelle (DeAlminana) Megale; brother, Mike Megale. While Vince was a member at Aldersgate United Methodist Church he served as Treasurer of Methodist Men since 1999 and cooked Sunday breakfast with several other men. He was involved in several church activities, the October Bazaar, Annual Garage Sale, and Hamburger Sale. Vince worked multiple jobs from 1965 until he began his career with Union Carbide in May 1967 as an hourly employee and retired in May 1999 as a Distribution Technologist. While at Carbide, he was the DOT Coordinator for the plant along with other duties and was the coordinator of the emergency response HELP Team for hazardous materials. He also was an instructor for the emergency response at the Colorado training center (Rattlesnake Junction) in Pueblo, Colorado which he attended on a yearly basis. He was a member of John Mitchell Masonic Lodge #1401 AF & AM for over 13 years, and was awarded the Golden Trowel in 2014 and served as Worship Master in 2018-2019.

Vince was elected to the Santa Fe school board in 1998 and served nine years until 2007. While on the board he served in multiple positions such as Secretary and President of the board for three consecutive years. He along with other board members attended a session of the Supreme Court concerning the Prayer issue for schools. Vince has been a member of the Santa Fe High School football Chain Gang since 2000. He also stayed busy attending his grandchildren’s activities and time with family. He had bowled with several leagues for many years, but since living in Santa Fe his hobbies are doing woodwork, making wooden frames for the Santa Fe Baseball Team Seniors and for student achievements, articles, and pictures. He also made the American Flag triangle box for deceased Veteran’s when called upon. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2024, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials in the form of donations may be made in Vince’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, Post Office Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
