Virgie Clifton Obituary

SANTA FE - Mrs. Virgie Mae Clifton went to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, April 2, 2024, in Webster, Texas at the age of 90. She was born on October 6, 1933, in Gonzales, Texas.

Virgie had been a resident of Santa Fe, Texas for 6 years and previously lived in San Angelo, Texas. Virgie was a former Elementary School secretary, Sunday School teacher, and was an active member of First Baptist Church in San Angelo for many years. She is now a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church in Santa Fe, Texas. She worked as an accountant for WKM and retired as an accountant from GTE/Verizon. Virgie was also a Real Estate Broker. She belonged to a writer’s club and had several published articles. She owned several businesses, including a Merle Norman Store. She and her husband, Doyle Clifton, owned Sugar Valley Pecan Farm, where they harvested and sold pecans. They also owned and operated a snack route, as well as raised emus. Her hobbies included decorating emu and ostrich eggs, along with creating handmade greeting cards and ceramics.

Virgie became a Christian at the age of 12. She married the love of her life and best friend, Doyle Clifton on February 9, 1952. She was the best Mom and Granny in the world!

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Monroe Kuykendall and Laura Eola (Helms) Kuykendall; husband, Doyle Clifton; son, Tommy Clifton (and wife, Gloria Jean); sisters, Ethyl Kuykendall, Della Fudge, and Nevada Klein; brothers, James Monroe Kuykendall, Barney Kuykendall, and Charles Kuykendall; grandchildren, Douglas Clifton and Chad Clifton.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Gail Held (Matthew); grandchildren, Amy Clifton, Heather Huckaby, Jennifer Pucel (Jason), Tabitha Odom (Ryan); great grandchildren, Cole Clifton, Austin Bell (Briana), Shylee Cubel (Caleb), Noah Bell, Justis Buckner, Taylor Pucel, Gibson Pucel, Kaiyah Odom, Tripp Odom, Sailor Odom, Crash Odom; great-great grandchildren, Easton Bell, Levi Bell, Aspen Bell, Maverick Cubel, Eisen Cubel, Archer Cubel and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Arcadia First Baptist Church in Santa Fe, Texas. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Joshua McDonald officiating. Graveside Service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024, with Pastor Jason Pucel officiating at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Held, Ryan Odom, Tripp Odom, Austin Bell, Sammie Davis, Shannon Kuykendall, and Jason Pucel.
