Dennis Wardrup Obituary

Dennis Loyd Wardrup

SANTA FE - Mr. Dennis Loyd Wardrup passed from this life Tuesday morning, January 1, 2019, in Galveston surrounded by his family.

Born March 10, 1947 in Houston, Texas, Dennis was the fourth of five children. He showed a natural talent for carpentry from an early age, but his skills were further refined when his father-in-law, Curley, took him under his wing. Dennis was a proud member of the Houston Carpenter & Mills Rights Union for most of his life. He loved working with his hands whether that was to build a house, making toys for his children or refurbishing and rebuilding old cars. Dennis stayed active through his hobbies. He enjoyed hunting for white tail deer and fishing but rolling through his mind was always… 300… the perfect bowling score. He was a long-time member of the United States Bowling Congress and competed in statewide and national bowling competitions for over 40 years. He also enjoyed playing 3 on 3 basketball alongside his brothers in the Senior Olympics. His close friends called him “Hollywood” and this always brought a smile to his face. Above all, Dennis was a loving father and grandfather who will always be cherished by his children. He’ll be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have known him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Evelyn Wardrup; sister-in-law, Gaye Wardrup; his pup, Blondie.

Survivors include his son, Jason Wardrup; daughters, Angel Wardrup-Jolly, Jamie Shroyer and husband, Michael; daughter-in-law, Judi Stephens-Wardrup; brothers, David Wardrup and wife, Glenda, Jimmy Wardrup and wife, Tanya; sisters, Betty Yocum, Sandra Drake and husband, Sammy; grandchildren, Rachel Jolly, Andrew Wardrup, Ashton Wardrup, Payton Shroyer, Jordan Shroyer; close friend, Andy Knape; ex-wife, Penne Tarvin; ex-wife and mother of his children, Emily Wardrup-Petron; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Minister David Wardrup officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Buffington, Andy Knape, Michael Shroyer, Andrew Wardrup, Ashton Wardrup and Jason Wardrup.
