Eugene Paul Keeler (86), born June 30, 1931 in Lindsay Oklahoma, made his final journey to his eternal home on Tuesday August 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving children. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Elma Kathleen Keeler, devoted mother Mamie Valentine, beloved step-dad “Val” Valentine, father Elmer Keeler and brother Charlie Irvin Keeler, step-brother, Phillip Houlton, sister, Debra Keeler Arocha, step-sons Michael J. Anderson and Delbert C. Anderson. He leaves behind brother Johnnie and wife Maxine Keeler of Dickinson, sister Jeanice Bias of Cassville Missouri, sons Carroll and wife Judy Anderson of Lake Elsinore, CA., Elmer Paul Keeler of Santa Fe, and daughter Mamie and husband Vic Pongonis of Springdale, AR., 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was a devoted and caring husband, father and friend; always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the submarine U.S.S. Sabalo. Dedicated employee of 20 years at Falstaff Brewery in Galveston. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed gardening, hunting, barbequing and spending time with family and friends. He loved singing any and all of Hank Williams Sr. songs and serenaded/entertained us kids anytime we were taking a road trip. When my dad was asked what he felt his greatest achievement in life was, he responded; “the home he designed and built for his family.” Which is a lasting reminder to kind of man our father was. With strength, determination and love, he completed our home with help of family members/friends in 1975.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Bryan Anderson, Katie Anderson, Kelly Anderson, Melissa Anderson, Kara Pongonis and Ryan Pongonis. Honorary bearers will be Victor Paul Pongonis and John Swed.

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
