SANTA FE – Mr. Gilbert Salinas Garza passed from this life Wednesday evening, February 22, 2017, in Friendswood.

Born March 3, 1924 in Goliad, Texas, Mr. Garza had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1970. He had been a boilermaker/welder for many years, working at numerous shops in the area, Todd Shipyard for 10 years and Kelso Marine, and enjoyed yard work and spending time with his wife and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Eulogia (Salinas) Garza; brothers, Apolinar Salinas Garza and Aurelio Garza; sisters, Maria Nino, Juanita Kohler, Josie Guzman.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Evangelina Garza; sons, Ruben Garza of Santa Fe, Robert Garza of Corpus Christi, Harold Lee Garza of Waskom, Albert Garza and wife, Sheryl of Santa Fe; daughters, Yolanda Barrington and husband, Ken of Waskom, Belinda Cutright and husband, Virgil of Angleton, Delma Bradford and husband, Jim of Santa Fe, Marie Gatz and husband, Greg of Marietta, Georgia, Lisa Garza of Santa Fe; brother, Jerry Garza of Corpus Christi; sister Elia Montemayor of Corpus Christi; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Monday, February 27, 2017, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Judge Mike Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert A. Garza, Ruben E. Garza, Dexter Gatz, Jerry Rodriquez, David Sanderford and Richie M. Urbani.  Honorary pallbearer will be Albert G. Garza.

Visitation with the family will be from 9:30-11:30, Monday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
