SANTA FE - Mrs. Gladys Shirley Gravitt passed from this life Saturday morning, July 1, 2017, in Santa Fe.

Born March 21, 1933 in Madison, Missouri, Mrs. Gravitt had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1988. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Alta Loma, had worked at Lipton Tea in Galveston for 17 years and Sam’s Club in LaMarque as a food demonstrator for 17 years. Gladys enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley Clyde and Martha Ann (Johnson) Smith; daughter, Vicki Day; son, William “Danny” Gravitt; son-in-law, Dennis Day; grandson, Dennis Day, Jr.; sister, Hilda Lute.

Survivors include her son, Randy Gravitt and wife, Elsie of Hitchcock, Chris Gravitt of Katy, Gary Gravitt of San Leon; daughter, Marla Brinlee and husband, Russell of Santa Fe; brothers, Jarold Smith and wife, Esther of New Orleans, William Smith and wife, Sharon of Springfield, Illinois; sister, Mercita Chism and husband, Dale of Clark, Missouri; brother-in-law, Norman Lute of Madison, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor John Newton officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Gravitt, Shawn Day, Rusty Gravitt, Pleslee Gravitt, Michael Woodson and Gavin Gravitt. Honorary bearers will be Brendon Gravitt and Hector Batista.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501. 

Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Gladys’s name to First Baptist Church of Alta Loma, 5400 Main Street, Santa Fe, Texas 77510.
